Firearms report

I now shot around 2200 rounds through the Beretta 92FS, and it has rarely missed a beat1. That and I found a great little gun store in town with some very knowledgeable and friendly staff. The downside is that they're only open 9 AM to 6 PM Monday to Friday, which means I'll either have to go during lunch or immediately after work to catch them when they're open.

Which also comes to my future plans when it comes to my firearms collection. Yeah, I only have a collection of one Beretta 92FS right now, but after some research, trying out a few fellow friendly gun owners who offer to let me shoot their guns2, and checking out different firearms at gunshops, I have a roadmap of what I'll be doing next. For now, I'll be sticking with the 9mm Parabellum caliber, at least until I start reloading my own ammo to keep my costs down as much as I can.

My next target will be the Springfield Armory XD 9mm Subcompact. Hopefully, I'll be able to get it in January3, but if I have to, I'll use my tax return to pay for it. After getting the XD, I'll start taking the conceal carry classes offered at the range here then apply for the Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit. At around the same time I receive the permit, I'll probably look into getting the Kel-Tec PF-9 as to allow my girlfriend to carry the XD for her work; the Beretta is a bit too big for her to have a good grip with. Plus the PF-9 is the smallest 9 mm guns I've held, and there doesn't seem to be many issues with it when I searched for problems on the gun on the net.

Sometime in the next year, I'd also like to get a .22 pistol (I'm eyeing the Walther P22, but I am considering others) and a short-barrel4 shotgun (Mossberg 500 or Remington 870, leaning more towards the Mossberg). After the shotgun, though, I'll probably look into getting a gun safe, as most things after it will likely be "toys". For example, I really do like the idea of the Beretta Cx4 Storm carbine, and I'd get the 9 mm, of course, to keep in line with the handguns if I get one. It would largely be an expensive range toy rather than a self-defense or hunting weapon, though.

Then again, if the SHTF5, my girlfriend would probably be able to handle the 9mm carbine better than the 12-gauge shotgun...

UPDATE: Maybe, when I have more discretionary funds, I'll pick up both of Kino's "persuaders"6, as identified by Astro...

  1. 1. The only failure to feed happened when I attempted to load a magazine a friend had loaded; she somehow got 16 rounds into the 15-round magazine. Popping out the extra round fixed that issue, and I haven't had any other problems. Then again, I'm cleaning the gun after every time I go out to the range with it.
  2. 2. It's somewhat funny how enthusiastic people are at offering you to try out their weapons. Likewise, I let them shoot the Beretta if they wish.
  3. 3. Financing permitting...
  4. 4. 18 to 20 inch barrel
  5. 5. Like when the zombies attack
  6. 6. a 1851 Navy Civilian .44 Caliber Revolver and a Colt Woodsman Second Series Match Target in .22 LR
