A Little Contest on the Internet

Found this little contest. I guess I'm stupid, as I'm stuck on page two...

More games for Linux

[img_assist|nid=69|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=100|height=75] Found out about World of Padman from Digg, a total conversion of Quake 3. Quite an odd first person shooter, but it does have a native Linux installer and does work on my gaming system running Ubuntu. I have the details up on full and pretty much maintain 90 FPS.

Interesting little storage device

[img_assist|nid=67|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=100|height=75] The Drobo seems to be a very interesting little storage device. Too bad it only currently connects via USB, as it would make a very interesting NAS box for a home user with multiple systems or a small office (Though I'm sure that's in the works...). Would definitely would be an interesting option for me in the future, as I have a habit of accumulating hard disks over time.

Gaming on Linux

I'm going to have to look into some of these when I get the time.

Yes, it's a joke article, but it did peak some interest from me with the links it provided. Especially to UFO: AI. I was a X-COM: UFO Defense addict in the early and mid nineties. Being able to play it on my laptop would severely bring my productivity on Linux down...

Microsoft is irrelevant

Paul Graham has declared that "Microsoft is Dead"! Actually, despite his provocative title, my title to this Blog post is much closer to what he actually is saying: Microsoft is "dead" the same way IBM is "dead". IBM really doesn't drive the technology world like they used to anymore, but they are still a major company that makes many millions of dollars of profit a year. And he gives several reasons for why he thinks Microsoft is "dead" in much the same way, including that Google is becoming the "top dog", for better or for worse, in technology, the rise in prominences of Web 2.0 technology (Like AJAX and the software that use it, like Gmail) that work in any browser in any O.S., and that the newer generation of startups that he sees are, increasingly, using Apple OS X, Linux, or otherwise non-Microsoft O.S.es to run their businesses, such that Paul himself is surprised when he comes across a Windows system!

New Guitar

Got an electric guitar from a friend for pretty cheap, so here's my small collection of guitars!

Dell to offer Linux preinstalled

From Dell's Ideas in Action page on March 28, 2007:

Dell has heard you and we will expand our Linux support beyond our existing servers and Precision workstation line. Our first step in this effort is offering Linux pre-installed on select desktop and notebook systems. We will provide an update in the coming weeks that includes detailed information on which systems we will offer, our testing and certification efforts, and the Linux distribution(s) that will be available. The countdown begins today.

Stuff that would get my blood boiling

I know I have temper issues. But this comment on Balloon Juice really got my blood boiling (Emphasis, mine):

No Rome, it’s not just you who hates Christianity, it’s most of the left. You’re in good company. Louder now freaks, I can’t hear you!

I'll argue with just about any extreme "leftist", but if I had heard this statement within earshot, my first inclination would be to send a fist into the speaker's jaw for such an asinine statement. I may not agree with them, but I know this is far from the truth about the type of people who make up the "left".

I know it shouldn't bother me, especially since this commenter is probably just a troll on that blog. But it's his presence there does more damage to the "right"'s image than anything anybody from the opposite spectrum can do. Which makes me think that he's a spoof at times.

Current Wallpaper for my Ubuntu desktop

I just decided to use an image that I had found in relation to one of my favorite animes:

I couldn't resist playing with the Beryl water effects here:
