Joost "Now for Friends"

Well, I got an invite to the Joost Beta earlier this morning, and got to watch the pilot for Stella while getting ready for work! Unfortunately, that was this morning, before the onslaught of new users wanting content came in. Right now, no programs are working, and the Joost team has admitted that their central servers have stumbled off the blocks. Oops!

Still, I was quite pleased with the 20 minutes or so that I was able to poke around with the client system this morning. I can see some serious potential with this. Yes, the content is lacking a bit, but, from their blog entry earlier this week, they are planning on adding new content this week. I am definitely looking forward to the NHL vintage games! I do hope that they can do live broadcast of games, even if I have to pay $150 a year to subscribe to something like NHL Center Ice to be able to watch any game that is played!

Last time, I mentioned that Lafayette Utilities Systems should definitely look into this. I'm going to expand that to LUS should look into hosting some kind of "caching" server within the Fiber loop with Joost to provide free content top-quality service to Lafayette residents with fiber! Heck, they might be able to provide High-Definition content with the type of bandwidth available to the city. The next step would be to build some kind of set-top box, most likely after the planned Linux client is released, so that users can watch Joost content directly on their TVs.

Wow, what a concept!

We'we heard so much about this new concept from the SkypeGuys! It's all over the media and every one is talking about it. Browsing trough the web site reading about it, just want to make you go there and watch on the spot!

But one need an invite... Hoping to get one soon:-)

Getting invited

Hy!

I heard about Joost, and I'm interested to try it.
I don't understand why do you need to be invited, why can we just register, or something?
Anywhey, I would be glad if somebody invites me.
Thank you!

Hah! I should have expected

Hah! I should have expected people trickling in wanting invites earlier... Smiling

It's not a problem, really. Just hope I don't get overrun by requests here...

As for Joost requiring invites to get into the Beta? I guess it's to slow down the rate of people trying out the system. I'd assume that when the system goes live, it'll be open registration then.

hi, an invite to joost , pls

Hi, Nick!
