As someone who just upgraded his laptop to Ubuntu 7.10, primarily used Ubuntu linux as my primary desktop O.S. since Dapper was in beta, and utilized Linux O.S. since 1998 as a server, the following quote from Rupert Goodwins blog really says it for me1:
Then how come I'm so much more at home with Ubuntu than Vista? It boils down to one abiding impression: Ubuntu goes out of its way to get out of your way, even if it doesn't succeed all the time. Vista goes out of its way to be Vista and enforce the Vista way. You must conform regardless of the implications.
The Blue Screen Screensaver from Microsoft.
It looks quite convincing, too!
A coworker was installing Windows 2003 R2 Server OEM 64-bit onto a server. According to Microsoft, you are allowed 4 Windows virtual servers. He needed to have Windows 2003 R2 Server OEM 32-bit (probably for some software that doesn't work in a 64-bit environment), so he was going to install it in a virtual server. Surprise, the license key for the 64-bit version does not work for the 32-bit version, so he calls up Microsoft support to ask how to setup his, according to them, allowed 4 virtual servers with a different version of windows.
Their answer (paraphrased): Find any key to install the OEM 32-bit version in the virtual system, then call the activation center to tell them that he's doing this.
That is kind of amazing... They're basically telling him to pirate a key and tell them.
I've complained in the past that the web-links package wasn't available yet in Drupal 5.1; well, as of February 16, 2007, a web-links module was released for Drupal 5.1. I have just replaced my hand-made version of the Blog Rolls with this one. One of my biggest annoyance about the latest version of Drupal has been relieved! Yay!
Also, I'm testing out the Coolfilter module. Let's see how well it works...
